Over the weekend, something happened that has never happened in my life- I was able to keep my momma out of the kitchen all weekend long and I did all of the cooking. Yep. My sister and brother are not going to believe me. Heck-I couldn’t believe I was able to do it. We have tried for all of our adult lives to get her to sit down & relax when we come home and either let us do the cooking or let’s just order a pizza. Nope. Not having it. She wants to cook for us because that is one of the many ways, but one of her favorite ways, she shows us she loves us. The look on her face as she watches the looks on our faces when we sit down at her table and fill up. You Mommas know what I’m talking about. There is a joy there and trust me, there is joy on this end too because nobody cooks like momma. So she never rests when we’re home because there are 3 of us and we all have our favorites. Well this weekend she was on my turf-she and my dad came up to Nashville for a long overdue visit and I wanted her to relax. So I had a line up planned that hopefully would show her and my daddy how much they are loved–a slow cooker Mexican beef stew waiting when they got in on Saturday night, a French toast casserole (thanks to my sweet neighbor, Holley) the next morning and a super decadent Shrimp Casserole for supper. My Mom loved it and appreciated it all! And my dad appreciated that his favorite dessert was in the freezer- Blue Belle ice cream. I think they both felt the love. I was sad to see them pull out of the drive yesterday, but glad for a great weekend–we laughed a lot as we always do, we ate a lot as we always do and we enjoyed just being together. And to top it all off, I have 3 new recipes for the new book—because if they passed the momma test, they gotta be good.
