Perfect timing for this repost from last summer!
This recipe is from a two-fold inspiration-Carrie Underwood & CMA Music Fest. I recently got a little package in the mail from Carrie whom I’ve thoroughly enjoyed interviewing and being around over the years. Carrie has a new workout clothing line called CALIA and thanks to her, I am now the coolest looking jogger on my road in these cute, floral printed capris, jacket & a matching headband! She also sent a really cool infusion water bottle that has two sections. The lower section where you can add your fruits & veggies, the middle filter and the top section with the flip-top lid. What’s also great about this bottle is that each piece comes apart, so that you can get it completely clean. Great idea. So, it got me thinking- CMA Music Fest is right now, tens of thousands of folks will be here in Nashville, & it’s gonna be hot. You country music fans are going to need to stay hydrated and NOT just from adult libations either.
I used a variety of fruit, some ginger and herbs from my herb garden (basil, mint and rosemary) and started mixing and matching. I came up with about 6 or 8 combinations and popped them in the fridge overnight just to marry all the flavors together. Watermelon/ginger and grapefruit/rosemary were both really good. Charlie liked cucumber and mint, but the one that Charlie and I both unanimously loved the most was pineapple basil!
I’ve never been a huge pineapple fan because it can sometimes be too sweet and acidic for me, but the basil brings that down just a bit and adds a clean, fresh flavor. And it couldn’t be easier to do. Whether you’re making it in your own water bottle or using a pitcher, it’s best to refrigerate for a couple of hours for the flavors to work together. And when the water is all gone, you’ve got a healthy snack to finish off. Get creative and try your own combinations and see which one prompts you to drink more water this summer. Everyone agrees that staying hydrated is important, so why not give your water an extra kick while you’re taking care of you. No cans, no chemicals, no artificial anything. Refreshing and all natural. Thank you, Carrie for the inspiration 🙂 Enjoy Music Fest everyone & bottoms up!!
- Fresh pineapple chunks or slices
- Fresh basil, sliced or whole leaves depending on container
- In the bottom of a pitcher (with a strainer) or a serving container with a pour spout, drop in basil to taste (use whole leaves), lay pineapple pieces on top of the basil and add water.
- For an infuser type bottle, drop in sliced basil and pineapple and add water.
- Refrigerate for at least an hour or so to allow flavors to meld together. Serve cold.
